Qoya

Fashion for peruvian cuture conservation

Qoya is conceived by a desire to rediscover my origins. After having lived in Germany for many years, I felt the need to find out more about my own culture and so I travelled to Ayacucho in Peru. While walking through the streets of Huamanga, immersed in my thoughts, I saw three local women embroidering. I was amazed by the beauty of this traditional art, the feeling they put in each color while working and the way they stand out by the contrast created between the grey colors of that street and the textiles. In that moment all my worries faded away, and I realized that this was what I had been searching for. I had the desire to share the inspiration that these women had given me, a message of strength and love.

Qoya comes from the language Quechua. In the old Inca Empire, ‘La gran Qoya’ was the bravest and strongest of women. These textiles have a long and impressive history, just like the women who make them and I identify with them. The purses are made personally by me with textiles of Ayacucho, Huancayo and Ancash. They are a part of this experience and evidence of the wonders of my country. Carry them with you, and their bright colors always be by your side.
